Course Description
This course emphasizes knowledge and skills that will enable students to understand media communication in the twenty-first century and to use media effectively and responsibly. Through analysing the forms and messages of a variety of media works and audience responses to them, and through creating their own media works, students will develop critical thinking skills, aesthetic and ethical judgement, and skills in viewing, representing, listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
#1 Introduction to Media
In this unit, students will learn about media literacy, mass media, social media and past and future media. They will learn about the key concepts of media and will participate in activities to deconstruct media.
#2 Media Issues
This unit will deal with such topics and stereotypes, selling violence, image and gender. Students will also learn about common advertising techniques and will learn about the Seven Groups of Psychographic Profiles.
